With the rest of the City squad away in China, Andy Cole and Nedum Onuoha remain at Carrington in an attempt to regain full fitness with the start of the season just over two weeks away.

Stuart Pearce spoke exclusively to mcfc.co.uk to update us on the recovering pair.

“I think with Coley and Nedum, how far they are coming on fitness wise, it was more beneficial for them not to get on an aeroplane and miss a day of training. So we made the decision on them to keep the boys training at Carrington.

“If Nedum goes well this week he’ll look to play 45 minutes in the reserves against Hyde on Saturday. As for Coley, if all goes well with him, he’ll look to join in with the rest of the players once we are back.”

And on the issue of other injuries within the squad, Pearce said: “We just have little niggles really in the main. Jihai’s a bit of a worry but he’s travelled to China with us. Other than that we have nothing major.”

With two more pre-season games just around the corner, the Manager gave his thoughts on how the previous warm-up games had gone.

“It’s the fitness we’ve been looking for and the first four games before we’ve come away were all aimed at building up players towards getting 90 minutes in. And now I think these two games will serve us well in China.”
