Richard Dunne has a good chance of winning his fitness battle ahead of Sunday’s Premiership opener at Stamford Bridge.

City’s skipper picked up a hamstring strain during the pre-season visit to China and was pulled out of the Irish squad for this week’s friendly against Holland.

However with the Blues now fine-tuning their preparations for Sunday’s match against Chelsea, Stuart Pearce gave the latest news on Dunne’s and the squad’s injury situation.

“Richard’s trained for the last two days and he’s fine,” said Pearce. “It’s every day at a time with a hamstring problem but he looks OK, it’s certainly better than fingers crossed at this stage.

“Coley and Didi Hamann are probably my two main concerns at the moment, apart from that we are not so bad. Stephen Ireland’s been back in as well over the last couple of days. Everyone-else has come through and the majority are available.”
