Stuart Pearce has rebuffed claims that Sylvain Distin is in talks with Middlesbrough over a transfer away from Manchester City.

The French defender joined the rest of the squad as they flew from Manchester Airport on their pre-season tour to China, and the Manager confirmed that Distin remains with the Club.

“He’s a Manchester City player, and he joins us on the pre-season tour,” said Pearce.

“I was quite surprised to turn on the TV while I was having my corn flakes this morning to see that he was talking to Middlesbrough. He’s here, he’s not at Middlesbrough.

“We offered him a fantastic contract and we hope he will sign. One thing we hope will make him do so is the success of Manchester City this season, and also the likes of Joey Barton and Micah Richards wanting to be part of the club, as well as the new faces like Didi Hamann and Ousmane Dabo with possibly one or two more.”

Pearce also confirmed that City’s Chief Executive Alistair Mackintosh would stay in the UK while the squad goes to China as the Club continue to hunt new signings.
