Sun Jihai is delighted with the hero's welcome he has received since arriving in China for City's pre-season tour.

The Chinese international was mobbed by media and well-wishers at Shanghai’s Pudong airport on Wednesday, and given a standing ovation when arriving at a press conference on Thursday.

Jihai told the media: “It is terrific to be back in China, the welcome has been fantastic and it’s great to be part of the team.”

The Blues play two matches, against Shanghai Shenhua on Friday and Kashima Antlers of Japan on Sunday, and Jihai is hoping to feature in front of his countrymen.

“I have been injured for the last couple of weeks, but as you have seen at training today I am recovering quickly. It might be difficult to take part in Friday’s game but I am hoping to take part on Sunday.”

The 28-year-old also expanded on the reasons for his success as a Chinese Premiership pioneer.

“I have been lucky to have been at a great club like Manchester City for many years and the English type of football suits my style of play.”
