Stuart Pearce was pleased with the performance of the City side that drew their opening pre-season friendly.

21 players were used, with the entire team except goalkeeper Joe Hart changing at half time as Pearce looked to assess his squad in a match situation after 10 days of training at Carrington.

Speaking to mcfc.co.uk after the match, Pearce said: “We’re pleased that everyone came through unscathed and as it stands we have picked up no injuries.

“The new boys have had a taste and it shows that as much work as you do on the training pitch, you know full well that in a match situation it’s a different kind of fitness.

“Wrexham have had a few more games already and credit to them, it was played in a good stadium on a good pitch with a nice tempo to the game, and we brought a few fans. We’ll be stronger for that and I expect a better performance on Saturday.”
