Dickov returned to the Club in May after spells with Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers, with his ability to knuckle down and do the hard yards part of the reason that Pearce brought him back.
“I think that you need people who have Paul’s mentality for football, because he’s a proper footballer,” says Pearce.
“The game, as it stands at the moment with the flash lifestyle that is associated with football, and there is superstar status that some players have, but Paul Dickov is not a part of all that. He is the kind of player who says, ‘I know what I am good at, I am going to do that and I am going to give everything to the cause’.”
The two played alongside each other before Pearce moved behind the scenes, but the Manager has obviously seen enough of Dickov down the years to know that his approach was just what the City squad needed.
“What I see in Paul Dickov, I associate with my myself. I was never the most gifted player in the world, but if you are talking about effort, will power and the desire to get there at all costs then I was up with the best of them on that.
“I think Dickov falls into that category as well, I think he will be a credit to this football club. Some may say that it’s a good signing, others may ask why we have brought him back but time will tell on that.”
The Manager has also expanded on the qualities that made him make his move to bring Ousmane Dabo to the Club.
“He’s an experienced player, 29 years of age so certainly not over the top. He’s a holding midfield player with a good use of the ball, he will give us stability and a bit of experience as well.”
