Stuart Pearce was pleased with another pre-season friendly win, despite a performance that was, as he admits, slightly low-key at times.

City won thanks to an early goal from Claudio Reyna and had several other chances, but Blues keepers Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel had very little to worry them in the halves that they each played.

“We were a little bit low tempo but we have got 90 minutes out of a few players and looked comfortable at the back,” said Pearce after the game. “There were no injuries for us and I’m pleased with that.”

Recent signing Bernardo Corradi played for the first 45 minutes as a lone striker, but he had his chances and looked comfortable.

“Bernardo has had his first 45 minutes and we have options up there. Vass has a slight injury and Coley is still on his way back, so what we need is options with the boys up front so I am pleased with how it’s gone.

“Because we have a few new faces we are learning to play with each other, so with three tight into midfield and two slightly further up, it was going to be slightly difficult for the one up front on his own. I also thought Dunne and Distin were outstanding for me today.”

The preparations for the new season have gone well, and Pearce is happy with how things are shaping up as the squad prepare for their two-game trip to China in the coming week.

“From an injury point of view we are fine, the fitness levels are very good and everyone’s getting the desired amounts of game-time that we want out of them.”
