The 57-times-capped international completed his move to City last week, and he adds to an impressive list of compatriots who have pulled on the sky blue shirt down the years.
Bert Trautmann and Uwe Rosler are just two of Hamann’s fellow countrymen who have been with the club over the years, but there were other factors that he took into account.
“There have been a few Germans that have played here, and it’s a traditional club,” he asserts.
“It’s got a great history, I have played at the stadium before and it is excellent and they are bound to go back into Europe at some stage. Hopefully, I can help them achieve that.
“City are always tough to play against and there are some very good players here. They have improved a lot in the last few years, and I think that can continue next season.”
City have moved some of their crop of young players up from the Academy to the first team squad alongside ‘Didi’, but he has already liked what he has seen of them while he was still at Liverpool last season.
“There are some good young players here, I watched them in the first leg of the Youth Cup Final at Anfield and it’s obvious there is a lot talent here. It’s always good when you have young English players that are good enough to play for the first team at some stage.”
