Terry is a product of City’s youth Academy, but after moving to Bury he suffered a serious knee injury in 2005 that eventually put paid to his time with the Shakers.
When mcfc.co.uk caught up with Canadian-born Terry in May, he was working with staff at both Carrington and Platt Lane in a bid to get fit enough to approach clubs once pre-season training resumed.
The work paid off, and now he is all set to start the season at the Moss Rose Ground, as he explains:
“Jim Cassell told me that Macclesfield were looking for players so I went there for training to see how it would go. I ended up playing a few games, and after 10 days the Manager brought me into the office and said ‘I like what I’ve seen, I’m very impressed and I’d like to sign you.’
“I’m working for Ian Brightwell and Asa Hartford, two ex-Manchester City men, but without the help of Jim Cassell, Alex Gibson, Paul Power, Steve Eyre and especially Robin Sadler at Carrington I wouldn’t be where I am now.
“Macclesfield’s Chief Executive said to me, ‘Congratulations, you’re a professional footballer again’ a couple of days ago, and I’m the happiest man in the world right now.”
As well as joining in with matches at the Academy, Terry was put through his paces by physio Robin Sadler at Carrington, behind the scenes work that was he says was invaluable.
Terry continues: “It was six or seven hours a day of hard training that helped me get back into condition and fit enough to be a professional footballer. It all paid off and I’ve come through three pre-season games with no problems, we have Bradford away to start the season and I can’t wait for it.
“I really appreciate all the help that Jim and all the staff at City have given me, without them I probably wouldn’t have played again.”
