City have headed to Belgium for this evening's friendly against Charleroi and Hans Backe has been taking the Blues back to basics.

The Blues assistant manager revealed: “We have been working on the defence just to get the basics right and the foundations in place.

“We have also been training a lot on the attacking game. That is what you are looking for in the pre-season – a solid team where every player knows his role.”

After Charleroi, City only have the trip to Shrewsbury and the Thomas Cook Trophy game against Valencia before the Premier League season starts, so Hans appreciates the time that the squad spent in his homeland.

Hans continues: “It was a great arrangement because there was only about eight to ten days to prepare the training camp. Everything worked well with the hotels, food, good transfers and you couldn’t complain about anything.”

As for Sven’s return to Sweden, with all the people clamouring to see him, it was like the return of the King.
Backe agreed adding: “It looked like that especially outside the hotel and seeing all the spectators watching us train. I think he’s used to it, but he signed a lot of autographs.

“It was a full house for every training session. So it was a little bit special for sure.”
