The 20-year-old became the new City manager’s second purchase in as many days, following hot on the heels of Italian striker Rolando Bianchi, and Sven has expanded why he swooped for the highly-rated Fernandes.
“He’s a defensive midfielder, he’s the captain of the Swiss Under 21 side and he’s one of the biggest talents in Switzerland. He’s young, and he looks like he has a great future.
“It’s good if we can take on players like him, which we have done here, and I hope everyone will be happy with him. I’m not sure how much he will play this season, or how much he will start, but it’s good for the future of you can find these sort of players.”
The Manager confirmed that there will be more arrivals as he looks to fine-tune the squad ahead of the start of the 2007/08 Premier League season on August 11th.
“I don’t have a number, it depends what kind of players we can get. We have two in now, but we’ll have more, that’s for sure.”
