The Manager is back in his homeland as City prepares for the upcoming Premier League campaign with two friendly matches and a week of training sessions, but he is already looking ahead to the sort of progress he wants the club to make under his leadership.
Sven says: “Our aim is to be in the better half of the table, and pretty soon we want to play in Europe, that’s for sure. We want to be a really, really strong club in the Premier League.”
Turning to the subject of transfers, the Manager was as cool as ever as he played down speculation that is linking any number of players with moves to City following the capture of Rolando Bianchi and Gelson Fernandes.
“Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks, since I arrived we’ve been linked with 50 to 60 players. But that’s good because people are talking positively about this football club.
“It’s clear we need new players, but it’s not fair on existing players if I say that we need goalkeepers, midfielders or strikers, for example. We know we have to strengthen the squad, and that’s what we’ll do.
“I can’t say anything else yet because I need to bring in players in the areas we want, but what is most important is that we have to improve on the previous few seasons.”
