With the news this afternoon confirming that Blues captain Richard Dunne will miss City's next fixture, Sven-Goran Eriksson is expected to use the opportunity to take another look at Croatian defender, Vedran Corluka in the heart of his defence.

The 21-year-old former Dinamo Zagreb man slotted in comfortably at centre-back for last week’s 2-1 Carling Cup victory and following that Eriksson said: “He’s a very good central defender. He’s very stubborn, not that aggressive, but is more elegant and solves all the problems.

“Sometimes you have the feeling ‘is he quick or not?’ because he’s doing exactly what he needs to do and nothing more – that is good. He’s another one who is just 21-years-old.”

England Under 21 international Nedum Onuoha could well benefit from Dunne’s suspension as he looks the most likely to come in at right back if Corluka does indeed shift to the middle of defence.

Aston Villa travel to the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday September 16 and will be on a high having beaten Chelsea 2-0 at Villa Park yesterday. Tickets for the game are on sale now and for more information click here >
