Richard Dunne says that the Blues squad are enjoying the way Sven-Goran Eriksson has them playing, and that this is being reflected out on the pitch where it counts.

With the new-look City’s stylish approach earning praise from many quarters, the skipper has been reflecting on how the new manager’s methods have rubbed off on the players.

Richard says, “Everyone’s enjoying it and people are praising us for the way we are playing. We are being talked about in a positive manner, even top six is being mentioned from outside whereas last year that was unlikely.

“His calmness and approach to the game has made everyone relax, he wants to play nice football and be positive in what we are doing, so it’s so far so good.

“His record in the past speaks for itself, his ideas are pretty simple and it’s easy to take onboard. The performances have reflected him in the way we have been calm on the ball, passing nicely and trying to create as many chances as possible.”

The arrival of such a high-profile figure into the SportCity hotseat has also had its benefits, according to the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international.

“The manager’s invested heavily in the summer, he comes with a big reputation which in turn brings more pressure with it but the bonus with the manager is that he takes all the pressure.

“The press are more interested in him than in individual players, we are training with confidence in what we are doing and so far we have delivered. Also, the more successful we are between now and January, the better the quality of players that could come in.

“I know it’s still early in the season, but if we can keep performing like we did at Fulham, as well as defend a bit better, hopefully we won’t be too far away from the top six.”
