Martin Petrov could not be happier with life after playing his part in City’s outstanding display against Newcastle.

The Bulgarian winger has begun to make his mark in the Barclays Premier League with three goals in the last two games, including the equaliser in the 3-1 win on Saturday that had City fans hailing one of the best performances by the Blues in years.

Martin also set up Emile Mpenza to score for the second game in a row, and the experienced international says he was pleased with such a good day’s work.

“I’m always very happy when I score, but it’s more important that we win the games. It’s OK if I score, or if Elano or Mpenza scores as long as we win.

“I know that City fans have been waiting for their team to play like this, so I’m happy that they like the way we are playing now. We have many good players here, we have a fantastic manager and everything is good for us.

“Newcastle were a good team, but it was great that we could play so well against them. All the team played well, from the defenders through to the striker so we’re very happy with the win.”

Both Martin’s goal and his assist were characterised by his speed down the left flank, and he describes they way he likes to play by saying, “That’s how I play, I have pace and I like to get into space. That’s when I’m happiest, but I’m happy for Emile and Elano that they scored as well.

“It’s important for me to play with someone like Elano, who can find me when I’m in space, he’s a very good player. I’m really happy for him because we have both had some assists but now have the goals as well!”
