Now that the dust has settled on the summer transfer window, Sven-Goran Eriksson has explained why there were no last-minute signings and he is happy with the eight signings he has made since taking over in July.

“We talked a lot about it, but we decided not to do it because it was a little bit complicated and the prices were very high,” he said.

“We’ll wait now until January. In one way it’s better to do it then because you know the team much better and we have time now to concentrate on what we need and we’ll try to bring in more quality.”

And asked if the money will be there come January, Eriksson added: “Yes. There is supposed to be money in January to spend again and that’s good for the Club.”

One player heavily linked with a move to SportCity over the summer was Mark Bresciano and Sven admitted that the Australian midfield was someone he was interested in, but refused any talk of a move in January.

He said: “We were always interested in him and he might be one of them, but it’s a little bit too early for that, let’s play another couple of months and we’ll see then exactly what we need.”
