Sven-Goran Eriksson’s superb return to management with Manchester City has been rewarded with the news that he has been named as the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month for August.

The Blues won their first three games without conceding a goal and currently lie fifth in the Premier League table.

On a day of double celebration for City, Micah Richards has picked up the award for August’s Player of the Month. The defender’s string of outstanding performances, most notably in the derby win over Manchester United, have been complemented by some eye-catching displays for England. After being presented with his award, Sven said, “I’m honoured to get this award. We had a good start, but after receiving an award like this it’s a must to thank the staff around me, the players, the club and the new owner.

“There’s a lot of work gone behind the scenes here, but it’s an honour and I’m very happy about it. As I have said before, this is the best league in the world and if you want to compete with other managers then you have to do so here.”
