Saturday saw several players out of their normal positions due to injuries to Garrido, Onuoha, Richards and Dunne, but despite this the Manager says that failings throughout the side were to blame for the dramatic last 20 minutes.
Sven says, “We had a lot of defenders injured, so the backline was completely new but we didn’t lose to Fulham just because of that. We lost because our attitude in the last 20 minutes to defending throughout went away.
“You have to take blows to the head, like we did on Saturday, to learn so it does not happen again. We have to learn to get behind the ball when we lose it.
“At the end of the game we had four five players up the field like strikers and not even walking back, that’s not acceptable. Adding to that, we had a new back four so we will have to learn the lesson.”
Even with Saturday’s result, City are guaranteed a top 10 finish and their highest ever Premier League points total, and Sven hopes that the bigger picture will be taken into account.
“What did we expect from this team before the season started? We not a side that is fighting for the Champions League yet, because if you are you don’t give away three points like we did against Fulham on Saturday.
“You can’t judge the season on the last 20 minutes of Saturday, I’m very disappointed with what happened and I hope it’s a lesson to everyone for the future.”
