Dietmar Hamann thinks City can still be in with a shout for a place in Europe after Saturday’s trip to the Stadium of Light.

The German midfielder knows that Roy Keane’s side are in a good vein of form, but he wants the Blues to get a similar result to their last trip to the north-east, early January’s 2-0 win over Newcastle.

Didi says, “It’s going to be tough, we’ve had some bad results on the road lately and Sunderland are in a good run of form. They only need two or three points to be safe and won at Fulham last week so we know they are going to be a tough proposition.

“Sunderland is always a hard place to go to, but we want to finish the season on a high so we have to get three points to keep that chance of Europe alive.”

The possibility of City qualifying for the UEFA Cup via the Fair Play league, like in 2003/04, is also open but when speaking to MCFCTV.com at the official opening of CITC’s second Kickz site Didi added on that subject:

“We know about the Fair Play route, but we want to finish as high as possible to make sure of getting into Europe. We can’t just rely on the Fair Play league, we’ve got 15 points to play for so if we get as many of them as we can then we are giving ourselves a good chance.”
