The Manager has not shrunk from showing the squad footage of the defeat at St Andrews, and he’s pleased with the reaction he’s seen in training since.
Sven says, “The players have been training very hard and very well this week. None of us, players or coaches, were happy with what happened last Saturday. We watched the video on Monday and no-one liked what they saw.
“But this is a great chance to show what we can do, because we are meeting one of the best sides in Europe or even the world. I can’t tell you what the result will be, but I can tell you that the performance will be different.”
He also admits that the last time City played Chelsea also does not make for pretty viewing, adding:
“Revenge might be the word to use. That was a very bad performance, maybe our worst this season. The only good thing was that three minutes should have been added on at the end, and the referee only played on for 30 seconds! The approach to that game, even from my side, was wrong and this will be different.”
The Blues face a Chelsea side still smarting from their defeat at the hands of Fenerbache on Wednesday night, but Sven is wary of a potential backlash to that surprising result.
“Normally this might be a good chance to meet a team, but with Chelsea they have such a big squad and they could change five or six players. Quality-wise, they will be no different and that’s what happens with a club like Chelsea. They should never have lost that game, especially after the way they played in the first half.
“Chelsea are a side that like to play football and they are physically strong, but this is a real chance for us to show what we can do.”
