Sven-Goran Eriksson has started his look ahead to Sunday’s home clash with Tottenham Hotspur insisting his side need a result and performance to get back on track.

With no win in three games and a bit of back luck at Reading last weekend, the Blues could have been forgiven for allowing their heads to go down, as the boss says: “At the beginning of the week, of course the heads were a little bit down, but now it’s Friday and today they had a very good session.

“We’ll hope for a short and sharp session tomorrow and then we’ll be ready for Sunday – physically, tactically and mentally.”

And despite City not picking up maximum points in the three games since the historic Old Trafford victory, the Manager highlights that things are far from the position the Blues found themselves this time last season.

Sven points out: “I know that one year ago Manchester City were in 17th place in the league and I think we have a lot more points this season.

“That’s good not to have that worry that we are going down because that would be very stressful – but now we want to do everything to try to play in Europe next season.”

And that means starting with a win against Spurs this weekend as Eriksson underlines: “We need a performance and result that would turn everything around – so hopefully we can get that on Sunday. If we do then the next eight games after that are much easier to play.”

So what does the Manager make of Juande Ramos’ team after some recent ups and downs?

“I think they played very well against PSV and they deserved to win that game,” he observes. “They changed their formation two or three times during it so to work out exactly what organisation they will come with is hard.

“They started that game without Lennon and he’s been on fire lately – so I don’t know if he has some problems or tactically Ramos wanted to play the diamond.

“It doesn’t really matter what they do because we will try to play our way.

“It’s always more important how we act on the pitch then how the opponents are going to be organised. If we do things well it doesn’t really matter.”
