The 20-year-old’s progress this season has also seen him become a regular in Stuart Pearce’s England Under 21 side, in addition to a string of eye-catching performances for the Blues, but he’s generous in his praise of the rest of City’s goalkeeping department.
“You can’t help but learn off people around you,” he declares. “As well as Andreas and Kasper we have two young keepers in Richard Martin and Filip Mentel, plus a great goalkeeping coach in Eric Steele, so everything is positive.
“We’re all learning off everyone-else, I don’t think Andreas would say he was the finished article and neither would Kasper either. We can all pick things up and help each other out, that is how it seems to work. It’s a good working environment, we all egg each other on.”
Named in the Under 21 squad for next week’s friendly against Poland, alongside Nedum Onuoha and Michael Johnson, Joe adds that he is willing to pick up tips from anywhere is his quest to keep improving.
“I’m only young myself, I’ve still got so much to learn in the game and learning from people who have been in the game for a long time does help. That said, you can watch a young keeper and see something different, so I’m watching all the time and still wanting to learn.”
