It took a David Ball goal on 63 minutes to give the current holders the victory, but having bowed out earlier in the competition, it now leaves Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers to battle it out next Monday night at Old Trafford for the trophy.
A number of City’s FA Youth Cup Final winning side were involved and did themselves no harm as they staked a claim for a place in next season’s reserve team set up.
One such player, James Poole, could have given City the lead a minute before the break in what proved to be a tight game.
But it was the prolific Ball who once again came up with the goal that gave City the win in what proved to be nothing more than a good work out in the Carrington sunshine.
