Didi Hamann is set to appear on his old stamping ground when City take on Liverpool this afternoon.

The German midfielder spent seven highly successful years at Anfield before moving to City, but he did not come off the bench when the two sides last met there in Liverpool’s 1-0 win in November 2006.

The 34-year-old has clocked up 31 appearances for the Blues this season, and manager Sven-Goran Eriksson says that he is set to call on his services after recently telling him he wanted to opt for a younger midfield.

Sven says, “He will be involved on Sunday, he knows Liverpool better than anyone here! Didi has been absolutely fantastic for us this season, but I recently spoke to him and told him that I wanted to see the younger players for the rest of the season, he was very professional and accepted it.

“We all know what Didi Hamann can do and he’s been superb for us this year. When it comes to experience, he beats everyone here and he’s played at the highest possible level.

“He sees things that others can’t out there, he has marvellous technique and can play one or two-touch so easily. He’s also like a leader out there and he’s been very, very good for us this year.”
