And speaking ahead of the clash with former England head coach, Steve McClaren’s side, the 27-year-old exclusively told mcfc.co.uk: “I think we need a good performance and win, especially being at home.
“It’ll help us get back on our feet particularly with the support of our own fans behind us.”
In what will be Twente’s second group stage game after they saw off Real Racing Club in their opening fixture, Shaun revealed he’ll be doing his homework before taking on the opposition tonight.
He admitted: “I don’t really know too much about them, but I’ve got a DVD of them to watch later and keep them tracked, so I know what’s going on.
“So as long as we get out there and play the way we know we can I think we should be okay. We’re hoping to open our part in the group stages with a win.
“If it comes, that first win will line us up for the rest of the group games, but it’ll get us ready for the next Premier League game against Spurs at the weekend which we also need.”
And after a flying return to his former club saw him grab four goals in his first six games back in Blue the side have struggled of late to post positive results, something Shaun and his team mates are well aware of.
“Us as a group of players are not really happy with what’s been happening in the games at the minute,” he stated.
“The boss might have already said it, but it’s hurting us a lot at the moment, and we’re going to try even harder than we have done because we know we need to turn it around as soon as possible.”
