City are waiting to find out the extent of a knee injury that flared up again for Craig Bellamy against Hamburg on Thursday night.
The striker was forced to sit out several games after the visit to West Ham in March with the injury, which returned to trouble him during the defeat in Germany.
The news is another blow on the fitness front for City, who finished the game at the Nordbank Arena with 10 men when Benjani hobbled off just before the end with a reoccurrence of the thigh strain that reduced his season to just a handful of appearances.
Bellamy will be assessed immediately when he returns to the UK with the squad on Friday, but is set to miss Sunday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Fulham and the return leg against Hamburg next Thursday.
