The England defender has now played a dozen times alongside Kolo Toure at the heart of the City back four.
As a pair the two were excellent against Arsenal and then stepped it up to another level for the visit of Chelsea.
Lescott knows he needs to play at his optimum in the coming months if he is to book a place in the squad for South Africa next summer and reckons the Blues’ defence is really starting to click.
“You have to take things on a game by game basis and I’m feeling really confident and getting a better understanding with Kolo, Shay Given, Wayne Bridge and Micah Richards each week,” he said.
“It was always going to take time to gel. Obviously the back four can’t operate as individuals - you have to work together as a unit and we’ve started to do that now. Our main objective was, above all else, to beat Chelsea and I’m sure the clean sheets will follow.”
Joleon admits the players have been buzzing at training this week after following the back-to-back victories but like his skipper says none of it counts for anything if the Blues can’t continue the winning streak at Bolton on Saturday.
“It was a good team performance against Chelsea and everybody was feeling happy afterwards and we feel really confident going into this Saturday’s game,” he said.
“If you can’t get yourself motivated to play against the best teams you shouldn’t be playing. You want to challenge yourself against the best and stop players of Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka’s calibre – it’s a great achievement for the whole team, not just the back four.
Now we have to go and play the same way against Bolton
...Joleon Lescott
“It’s going to be a tough because they have some good attacking players like Kevin Davies and Ivan Klasnić but we’ll go into the game full of confidence believing we can leave with the right result.”
If Fabio Capello is watching from the stands at the Reebok, it’s also a chance for Joleon to play is part in seeing off a challenger for his place in the England team – Gary Cahill.
“Yeah I’ll be looking to get one over on Gary,” he smiled. “I know him quite well from being in the England squads together, so this is an opportunity for me to perform well and hit a level of consistency that Fabio Capello likes and hopefully that will lead to being included in his squad next summer.”
