There were dark mutterings in some quarters before a sequence of seven successive Premier League draws was snapped by the 3-0 Carling Cup victory over Arsenal on Wednesday night.
Now though the Blues are back on track and buzzing with just one defeat on their record card since the start of the season seventeen games ago.
“The boss had a strategy and targets before the season started and we are only about two points off that at this stage of the season,” revealed Wright-Phillips.
If we win our game in hand then we are in a Champions League spot so it is hardly doom and gloom.

“The main thing is that we are not losing. In the main we are doing the right things even though we have let ourselves and the fans down on occasions by losing leads we should have retained.
“Our fans are brilliant as they showed on Wednesday and I am sure they will do again against Chelsea but there has to be some patience.”
Shaun Wright-Phillips reckons that tomorrow’s game at CoMs should be an evenly balanced affair though there is no hiding his admiration for his former colleagues.
“Nico has got everything it takes to be great striker,” he reckoned. “He’s a goal scorer but he also creates, he does not play for himself and he really is a team player.
“Once you have all those things in a player, and you’re willing to work hard, anything is possible. Nicolas really shows that in the way he goes about his business.
“He’ll drag players around the pitch to make it awkward, and he knows defenders so he knows what they don’t like and he makes sure that he does that.
“Then they have Didier Drogba. I can’t imagine what it’s like to play directly against him because of where I play.
“On his day he is probably one of the best strikers in the world and there is hardly anyone who can live with him. It’s hard to describe, but he’s always going to score goals because he is always a handful. He’ll always win free kicks because he’ll always have defenders around him, he’s got that in his locker and he’s got so much else to offer.”
Despite all that admiration SWP is backing the Blues frontmen to cause plenty of problems of their own.
Our strikers at the top of their game will cause any team problems

“It does not matter if it is at home or away, it’s a matter of us all clicking at the same time which we have done from time to time this season. The fans have been patient and they’ve been great with us, because it takes time to gel, but with their backing we have it in us to really do our thing.
“Craig Bellamy, has really shut his critics up since coming here. I’m really happy for him, he’s been on fire for us this season and he’s scored some vital goals for us.
“Other strikers came in after him, but he raised his game. That’s Bellers’ character all over, he never bows down over anything, on or off the pitch! He just lets his football do the talking and I admire him for that.”
What SWP does deserve massive credit for is that the little fella takes more knocks and fouls than most do in the league and he hardly gets injured or has his confidence knocked...
