The Argentinean, signed from Espanyol last August, will be hoping for an improvement on the last time he met the Reds. The Blues let a two-goal lead slip and Pablo was sent off in the second half on that day at the City of Manchester Stadium in October, with Pablo only able to watch from the sidelines as today’s hosts snatched all three points.
Despite City’s lack of a win on the road in the Barclays Premier League since August, the 24-year-old is relishing the prospect of playing in Liverpool’s famous stadium, and he told us,
“This sort of fixture, City against Liverpool at Anfield, was one of the big attractions of coming here. It is the sort fixture that fulfils your expectations of football in this country, for fans and players.
“It’s important that we go to places like Anfield and that we feel able to come away with something - a point or maybe even three. We have enough in this squad to go there and play with confidence.
“The atmosphere at games over here is something I really enjoy. The grounds are all different, and they are always full. The fans always get behind their team, wherever you play, and Anfield has a special atmosphere. I have been a couple of times as a guest of Javier Mascherano and the fans get right behind the home team.”
The possibility of coming into direct confrontation with his friend and fellow countryman is something else that Pablo is looking forward to, and he adds,
“I was at Javier’s house last weekend, and he gave me some stick because now that I am playing in midfield we could come up against each other! Whatever happens, we will be friends afterwards, but I hope it’s with me being on the winning side.”
