The Paraguayan is just one of a host of international-class front men, boosted this week by the arrival of Carlos Tevez, but the 28-year-old is confident that he can push to the head of the queue.
Roque, along with Stephen Ireland, Gareth Barry and Carlos Tevez, met the press at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi this morning. The quartet, along with Manager Mark Hughes, have called in en route to South Africa to take a look at the site of a new football complex to be built next to the hotel.
His manager could face a tough choice, but Roque is happy to fight for his place. He said: “At any club there will be a lot of competition for a place in the team, but that is what makes things exciting.
“I’m very proud to be here at the beginning of an exciting time, but of course I am confident about my chance of getting into the team. There will always be times when you’re not at your best, but we all understand that. We’re to start to take the team where we want to go.
“I know there are a lot of great strikers here now, but I know that if I do as well as I can, I have a great chance and the team will benefit as well.”
