The addition of Emmanuel Adebayor to City's strike force has been welcomed by another recent signing who could be in direct competition for a place in the starting line-up.

Roque Santa Cruz is in South Africa with the Blues’ squad for the pre-season Vodacom Challenge, but rather than be threatened by the presence of another imposing goal scorer, the Paraguayan is excited by prospect of teaming up with Adebayor.

He says, “It’s always a nice factor to have such a great player joining the team like Adebayor.

“Besides him, we also have brought in Tevez this week. He and Adebayor are a great improvement for our attack. I am very pleased he has joined us, as are all the other players.”

Mark Hughes now has real contrast of styles at his disposal up front, with rangy individuals like Roque and Adebayor contrasting with smaller speedsters like Bellamy and Tevez. The former Blackburn & Bayern man is convinced that the Manager will need this variety as the Blues eye the forthcoming season, and he adds,

“When you have such a talented squad, you can play and make partnerships with any of the strikers.

“I am sure at times Adebayor and I will be playing together. You have a lot of physical teams in the Premier League so I won’t be surprised if, for those games, they go with the two of us.

“We still like to play football too so it won’t affect the team’s style of play, but it will give us an important physical presence.”
