Penalty hero Shay Given says a combination of luck and technology helped in Thursday night's dramatic UEFA Cup win.

The Irish keeper saved two spot kicks to help City into the quarter finals, but in the pause between the end of the game and the start of the shoot-out, he was shown a DVD clip to help him make a choice as to where the Aalborg penalties might go.

Given guessed correctly twice, and with all of City’s penalties finding the target the Blues are into the last eight.

Shay told Channel 5 afterwards, “I hadn’t been in a shoot-out before, so anything to help me out was always going to be a bonus. I’m glad we sis, and I’m just looking forward to the next round now.

“It is a huge relief, we did it the hard way and we are delighted. We got a bit of luck but thankfully we came out on top.

“Sometimes it’s down to the luck of the draw. We need to play better but we are in the draw - so who knows?”
