Latin America stars Felipe Caicedo, Robinho and Elano, from the penalty spot, hit first-half goals that left relegation battlers Blackburn - Mark Hughes’ old club - with an uphill struggle at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Victory not only keeps the Blues at the heart of the chase for seventh place and a Europa League place next season but, according to Vince, is a confident platform from which to tackle next weekend’s big game.
The Belgium star said: “That’s the fourth win in a row, including the Hamburg tie at home, and we have proved that we are a good side. We are doing what we need to do before a big game for us at United.
I’m happy to say that it’s not just our home form that is good but the form in general, because in there you have the away win at Everton. Four in a row where you get a good result - you couldn’t build any more confidence for the next game.”
Kompany and Nigel de Jong sat dominant in the centre of midfield, as they did at Goodison Park, to allow Robinho and Elano the freedom to entertain the crowd as well as inflict real damage to the Rovers defence.
The ex-Hamburg favourite, who played a role in the opener by Caicedo, said: “As usual, we needed the first goal to feel that we were getting a grip on the game and it happened for us. After that it was just a matter of waiting for the other goals to come. We were well organised and got forward quickly.
“We knew our half-time lead was deserved, and the intention was to keep going and score a couple more. Unfortunately they got the penalty but for the whole game we defended well - the result is a pretty clear reflection of what happened.
“Even if we didn’t play as well in the second half as the first, we didn’t give many chances away and that’s the important thing. We conceded a penalty, which can always happen, but we didn’t give any chances away.”
The battle for seventh spot is likely to go to the last day, with City at Old Trafford then Europa rivals Tottenham before signing off at home to Bolton on May 24th.
Kompany added: “I hope we can get nine points - I wouldn’t be playing football if I didn’t think we could win every game - but hopefully six or seven will be enough.”
