Stephen Ireland was cheered by hundreds of young fans at the LIVE4CITY End of Season Bash as he accepted the LIVE4CITY/Junior Blues Player of the Year Shield from eight-year-old Connor Allen from Chester.

Entertainer Bruce Airhead briefly held the limelight with his amazing act, disappearing into a 6ft high balloon wearing a lycra body suit and emerging in a City kit and bouncing a football to the strains of Blue Moon.

But midfield maestro Stevie was the real star turn at the Citizen’s Suite event, having received a massive 66 per cent of the vote, well ahead of Robinho, who was second with 15 per cent, and Shaun Wright-Phillips, third on 12 per cent.

While that was the crowning moment for young Blues, there was never a dull moment with music from live bands Vogue and Jayden and a team-game ‘battle’ led by rival breakfast show hosts Mike McClean of XFM and Wingman of Galaxy 102.

The fancy dress prize competition, themed on blockbuster film Monsters and Aliens, attracted some weird and wonderful entries, and a great evening was hosted by BBC Radio Manchester’s Mr City, Ian Cheeseman.
