Nigel de Jong is keen to shrug off last Saturday's disappointment by getting stuck into a busy schedule on home turf.

The Blues play at the City of Manchester Stadium three times within a week, and the combative midfielder wants to make home advantage pay.

The visit of Arsenal for the Carling Cup quarter final is book-ended by games against Hull and Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League, but the Dutch international is not daunted by what’s in store.

He said, “There’s a lot of hard games coming up, but I think Liverpool was a good one for us. The final result was not what we hoped for a time but we did well, and we have a good chance for a win at home this weekend.

“Six draws in a row is not what we want, but being at home should count for us. We want a couple of wins now even though we know Chelsea will be a difficult one, and we have the Carling Cup game in between. But the confidence is there because we are playing three times at home, which will give us a real boost.

“We know we can play against the best sides and that we can raise our game. We have showed that against Liverpool, we beat Arsenal and it was only a narrow defeat to United but we won’t underestimate Hull this weekend.”

...Nigel de Jong...

24-year-old Nigel missed out on City’s busy schedule when the Blues were in the UEFA Cup last season due to his ineligibility. That’s not an issue now and he’s relishing City’s trio of home dates.

“I’m really looking forward to having all these games coming up. The other guys know what it’s like already, but the more games you have the more you get used to it and you know what to expect. You can build up a momentum and we have the exactly the kind of squad to cope with it.”
