City’s Republic of Ireland left-back Greg Cunningham has signed a new four-year deal today.

The 19-year-old defender has been in and around the senior squad since January and sufficiently impressed Roberto Mancini to earn a lengthy new contract.

The Galway-born youngster played in several of the Blues’ pre-season friendlies and now he’s aiming to challenge for more first-team action in the coming months.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new deal with City,” he said. “Now I need to impress the manager as much as I can and get as much game time as I can, too.

I’ve been working hard and it’s been an unbelievable year for me so far. To get this new deal sorted and win my first full cap for my country has exceeded all my expectations

“To play at any level for Ireland is an honour but to play a full game against Algeria and then another 30 minutes against Argentina recently is a dream come true.”

Greg admits having Wayne Bridge and Aleksandar Kolarov at the club, too, will help him continue to improve as the season progresses.

“They are two fantastic full-backs and hopefully I can learn as much as I can from them in the coming months and years and then put that into practice out on the pitch.”
