Dedryck Boyata’s excellent year continues with the news that he has been called up to the senior Belgian squad for the first time.

The 19-year-old defender caught the eye with some assured performances for City earlier in the year, and having represented his country at several youth levels he is now in the mix for the friendly against Finland on Wednesday.

Vincent Kompany is also in the same squad, and is one of several City players to receive their call-up papers for the midweek round of games.

There could be as many as four City players involved when the Republic of Ireland plays the first game in the newly rebuilt Lansdowne Road. Shay Given and Greg Cunningham may face both Carlos Tevez and Pablo Zabaleta, who was hardly involved in the Argentinean squad under previous coach Diego Maradona, at the shiny new Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Elsewhere, Gareth Barry, Adam Johnson and Joe Hart may face Hungary at Wembley while the Toure brothers are likely to line up for the Ivory Coast when they take on Italy at Upton Park tonight.

Aleksander Kolarov returns home for Serbia’s game against Greece, while Vladimir Weiss will be in Bratislava for Slovakia’s fixture against near-neighbours Croatia. Craig Bellamy has been recalled to the Wales squad by John Toshack for the game against Luxembourg in Llanelli.

Jerome Boateng makes the short hop over the North Sea for Germany’s visit to Copenhagen, but David Silva faces a much longer round trip with Spain playing Mexico in the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
