Don’t expect Vincent Kompany to appear alongside Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole on the X-Factor anytime soon.

The Blues’ Belgian defender was superb against Spurs on Saturday, but he admits he’s glad he doesn’t have to choose who he plays in front of this season with City arguably having the two best keepers in the land battling for the No.1 jersey.

“I’m a huge fan of both goalkeepers so I’m just happy that I’m not on any panel having to make the decision who plays!” laughed Kompany.

“Both Joe and Shay are world class and as a defender it’s a great feeling to have either of them as our last line of defence, but again, I’m just glad it’s not me who has to pick who plays.”

Kompany, who made two stunning late clearances to ensure Hart enjoyed a clean sheet on his return to league action for the Blues, was happy with the solidity of the side at White Hart Lane, and believes that is the benchmark for the season.

“Defensively, it’s the kind of performance we need to make week in, week out,” he opined. “We had some good moments on the ball, too, but at times you could see that this is pretty much a new team.

There was the odd pass that went astray because the understanding maybe isn’t there at the moment, but that will come before long

“It’s worth remembering that players like Nigel de Jong and David Silva have only recently returned after the World Cup, so things are only going to get better as the weeks go by.

“I look at the games we have to play this season and I don’t want to lose any of them and I think that’s how the top sides in this country think, too.

“I think there are maybe six or seven sides in with a chance of the title this season and we are in the mix for definite. I’d include Everton and Liverpool, because I think they’ll both improve on last year and Tottenham look very strong again, too.

“It could be wide open, which is great for the neutrals because it might be one of the closest Premier League title races for years.

“There is huge expectation surrounding our club this season, but that’s fine as far as I’m concerned. I just want to keep upping my game and be consistent each week – regarding everything else, I’m totally calm about things.”
