Patrick Vieira is keen to cause Roberto Mancini a few headaches as the City squad jostle for position ahead of the start of the Barclays Premier League campaign.

The Manager has many options to mull over for the lunchtime kick-off at White Hart Lane that kicks the season off, particularly in midfield.

The vastly experienced Frenchman is as hungry for success as ever despite all the trophies he has won during his long career, but he has a warning for his team mates that find themselves not out on the pitch at 12.45 this Saturday.

“There will be frustrations because quality players do not like to be on the bench,” says the 34-year-old, “but when you are at an ambitious club like City you have to accept it. What we have to do is put the manager in a difficult position when he comes to picking his starting eleven.

“He knows me well, he knows what I can bring to a team and I’ve got the experience. If I can stay away from injuries I have a lot to give, I’ve still got the desire and the determination to do well.

This is a great chance for the club to win trophies, I strongly believe that if every player gives all their commitment then this will be an exciting season for us.

Having a strong squad with experience to spare in every position is another factor that Patrick reckons could give City fans a season to remember.

“We have got the experience, and in having Gareth, Nigel, David Silva and Yaya there are so many quality players just in midfield. Kolarov is an international, so we have great quality in every single area of the team but we must keep our feet on the ground and give everything.”
