Emmanuel Adebayor says he can’t wait for the season to start after a confidence boosting win over Valencia at the weekend.

The Blues striker, who scored 14 times from 26 starts in the first season since his move from Arsenal, believes everything is in place for big season under Roberto Mancini.

And he reckons that the victory in front of a home crowd at the weekend has applied the finishing touches to a pre-season that has taken the club to America and Germany.

“It was a good way to finish the friendly games because Valencia is a good side that keeps the ball very well,” he declared.

“The win gave us confidence as we go into the match at Spurs next Saturday. Pre-season results do not really matter but as professionals we don’t like to lose any match and I think that the win on Saturday and some of the football we played showed we are ready.”

Adebayor was delighted to see Nigel De Jong, David Silva, Jerome Boateng and strike partner Carlos Tevez back in action after their World Cup exploits particularly the Argentinian talisman who topped the scoring charts last term.

“We all know how good Carlos is and showed it again for the half hour he was on the pitch on Saturday,” reckoned Adebayor.

He showed how motivated he is to do well for City this season as we all are

“We have all come here to try to make history and to do well for this club. City has done everything they can for all the players to make sure we only have to focus on one thing - playing and winning. So now it is up to us.

“In any season there are always difficult moments and good moments and hopefully we will have a season in which there are more good ones than bad ones.”
