Jerome Boateng is determined to show City fans what an asset he can be to the team after feeling he’s yet to reach the fitness levels he had during the World Cup.

The German full-back has suffered a catalogue of injuries since joining the Blues and was forced to miss the victory over Bolton after picking up another knock in training last week.

He’s hopeful of returning against West Ham this weekend and is desperate to get a run of matches under his belt with the busy Christmas period about to kick in.

“It has been a stop/start beginning to my City career,” he said. “I’ve not really been able to build up any momentum because of the long injury absence I had at the start of the season and a couple of other niggles.

“I wasn’t happy with my fitness when I did return at the end of September and I don’t feel I’ve played anywhere near as well as I can yet.

I picked up another knock when I was on international duty, then another last week so it’s been a frustrating time for me.

“I’m working hard in training and I’m eager to show the City fans what I’m capable of because they’ve not seen the best of me yet.”

Boateng is hopeful of returning for the trip to Upton Park on Saturday after recovering from the knock that kept him out of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.

“I should be fine for the weekend and I’m feeling much better now,” he said. “I’ve never played at West Ham’s ground before but I know the stadium is typically English with the fans very close to the pitch. I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s a very important month because the teams around us all seem to be playing each other so there is a great chance for us to take advantage of that and strengthen our position near the top of the table.”

Jerome also added that playing so many games over festive period will be a totally new experience for him compared with the same time of the season in Germany. He said: “I’ve always had at least ten days off over Christmas so it’s completely different to what I’m used to.

“But I need to catch up and this is the ideal time for me to build up my match fitness and gather some momentum.”
