Joe Hart believes the performance of his opposite number Tim Howard was the main reason Everton left the City of Manchester Stadium with three points.

The Toffees keeper was in inspired form as the Blues peppered his goal for the best part of an hour as City desperately tried to claw their way back into the game, but despite pulling a goal back with 20 minutes, the equaliser just wouldn’t come.

“We had a lot of chances but their goalie played well and they got what they came for,” said Hart.

“For their first goal I thought the lad did well to get the cross in because and Tim Cahill can find space in the smallest of areas and he took his chance well.

It’s a big opportunity missed because we could have been sat at the top of the table now but we need to dust ourselves down and pick ourselves up because we’re all obviously gutted to have lost this game.

...Joe rues defeat to Toffees

“We’ve got a great squad and the games are going to come thick and fast in the next ten days and we can’t dwell on this result for too long.

“We need to go to Newcastle and get three points and then look to beat Aston Villa and Blackpool because if we do that, we won’t be far off the top and we can go into the New Year with our tails up.”
