Yaya Toure may have to wait a little longer for his first brace of goals in a match but not perhaps too long if he keeps on as he is at present.

The City midfielder, bafflingly labelled a purely defensive player in his time at Barcelona, has proved a revelation since Roberto Mancini cut him loose behind the forwards.

He scored a blistering first against West Ham United from the edge of the box and then claimed a second when his shot hit the post and found the net off Robert Green.

Yaya is likely to lose that one in the ‘stewards’ room’ but wasn’t overly concerned in the wake of yet another superb performance in London by the Blues.

“It is not about me or who scores the goals but about the team,” he said later sharing out the praise.

I have to thank my friends on the pitch because as a team we played very well at West Ham. It was a good three points, we deserved it

...Yaya Toure

“It would be nice to have two goals but others were very important like David Silva. He is a fantastic player and when Carlos Tevez is missing is probably the most important player.

“It is great to be up at the top at the moment. It was a good match to win at West Ham because it kept the pressure on our rivals but the season is very long and we know we must continue in this way.

“When you win like we did it is great for the club and the fans. They are enjoying their trips to London with us after Fulham and now this game. It is satisfying for us. We have the right blend to do well but sometimes it takes time to build a great side.

“There is a lot of work done on the training ground and that is where you improve and where you prepare so that on a Saturday or Sunday you can put together performances that bring results.

“I enjoy the freedom of playing further forward and I am claiming two goals because it is the first time I have done that in one game. I don’t use my left foot an awful lot so I got lucky with the first one!”
