Adebayor is currently in Togo on compassionate leave following the terrorist outrage that saw three people killed in a machine-gun attack on the team coach at the African Nations Cup.
The Club has told Togo skipper Adebayor to take what time he needs with his family, but manager Mancini hopes that his former Arsenal strike leader “will be back in the next few days”.
The Blues boss also expects new signing Patrick Vieira to be ready for the second leg, with an FA Cup debut at Scunthorpe a possibility as the veteran Frenchman recovers from his calf injury.
Stephen Ireland, on the bench on Tuesday night, is over his hamstring injury and also in Mancini’s thoughts for the second-leg defence of the lead two-goal Carlos Tevez snapped up.
City’s boss admitted: “After 1-0 it was important that we recover and win - the players did very well after 15 minutes, at the start we were nervous. But we know the second leg will be difficult.
“I am very happy for Carlos, because he is ex-United and scored two. Sometimes you must defend, especially playing against a strong team like United, and Shay Given had a fantastic night.
“I didn’t see the penalty incident from the bench, it was too far away - but I watched Carlos take it and score! It was important that we scored before half time.
“This was my first derby, but I wasn’t nervous. It was most important to win my first derby, and I want to win my second derby as well if possible!
“Now we have to play Scunthorpe in the FA Cup on Sunday and the players must recover for that. We want to win that cup tie as well, because the FA Cup is important too.”
