The Argentinean striker scored eight times in seven games last month, and this hot streak led to him being named as the Barclays Player of the Month for December.
City fans were of the same mind, naming the 25-year-old as their own player of the month for the same period, but since the turn of the year his only action came as a substitute in the FA Cup win at Middlesbrough.
Manager Roberto Mancini had one eye on the Carling Cup semi final when putting Carlos on the bench at the Riverside, but the cold snap put paid to the scheduled first leg against United. Carlos is now itching to get back into the thick of the action against Blackburn Rovers tonight, and he says:
“We have won our last three league games and are going in the right direction, but we have to keep it going against Blackburn. I did not play against them at the start of the season, but they are always tough to play against. It won’t be easy but we are at home and we have to make that count. Our fans have been great to me since I came to City, and I want to start the year off with a win for them.
“I’m here to score goals and I want even more this season. It has gone well for me so far, especially in the last few weeks, but there is a long way to go this season. Our aim is to get into the top four, and I want to play a part of that, I know I need to keep on scoring to help City get to where we want to be.”
The icy weather has put the hotly-anticipated clash with Carlos’ previous club back until next week and although as frustrated as anyone about the postponement the delay has not diminished his appetite for the two-legged tie.
“We can’t control the weather, unfortunately!” he laughs. “We just have to wait until we get the chance again, but I was looking forward to it. There is not too long to wait now and only a week between both games, so it should be a fantastic occasion.”
