Spirits are high after Tuesday night’s win over United in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi final but the Irons present the kind of hurdle that has stymied City in recent years.
The Blues have left the world’s most famous knock-out cup competition at the hands of Championship opposition in the last two seasons, and Kompany is determined that Nigel Adkins’ side do not make it a hat-trick this Sunday.
The prospect of three cup games in a week excites the 23-year-old, who says,
“I love it. We’re hard to beat so maybe cup football suits us. But Scunthorpe is going to be very difficult and it’s a dangerous game for us.
On the back of a good performance against United, going to Scunthorpe might seem like an easy job, but I believe it will be completely the opposite. We’ll have to be at our best and we started preparing right after the derby. We don’t want a defeat there before going to Old Trafford.

One player who could feature at Glanford Park is Dedryck Boyata, who has looked nerveless in his two starting appearances for City so far. His success has not taken his fellow countryman aback, and Vincent continues:
“I wasn’t surprised by Dedryck. As a centre back if you are a clever player like he is, and with his quality and his positioning even at a young age, then you will do well. Before the United game I told him that this would not be any different than the one he played against Middlesbrough. I wasn’t surprised but amazed by the way he just seemed to get on with and just do his job. He did not seem fussed at all.
“I’m sure he must be very, very nervous inside like everyone is at that age, but if you look at him on the pitch he looks very mature. I like to see that, it’s a very important quality to have, also to be intelligent and to learn very quickly. He’s young, he’s going to make mistakes but at the moment he’s not, and it’s a sign that he’s learning.”
