City defender Javan Vidal has signed a new one-year contract with City.

The Stretford-born 21-year-old is now hoping to force his way into Roberto Mancini’s thoughts in the coming weeks and months having yet to appear in the senior team, though he has had loan spells with Aberdeen and Derby County.

Vidal impressed on last year’s pre-season tour of South Africa and he knows the upcoming campaign is the most important of his career.

“My current deal ran out yesterday so I’ve extended my contract by another year,” he said.

These things can take time to sort out and I’m just glad everything has been sorted out

“My aim now is to impress the manager during pre-season. I’m just looking for a chance to show people what I’m capable of and if the opportunity comes along, I will give it my best shot.

“If I don’t break through initially, maybe the club will send me out on loan to get a few more games under my belt and gain more experience. Either way, I’m just happy to have signed a new deal.”
