Vincent Kompany is convinced that it is just a matter of time before City's ambition and progress sees the club cement its place in football's elite.

The versatile Belgian star has been hugely impressed by Sheikh Mansour’s vision for the Blues’ future and the management team he has in place working to make it a reality.

City are back in Europe and ready to recruit again from the top end of the transfer market after Roberto Mancini’s near-miss in the bid for a Champions League spot next season.

Kompany, who played a leading role in last season’s success story on the pitch, dismisses any notion of “flash and cash” and declares: “Manchester City is all about a vision.

“The owner clearly didn’t come in just to buy a bunch of players, he came in with a vision - a project, something far more rewarding than just winning a trophy, something that’s lasting.

That’s what you have to respect about what’s happening, the fact that there’s a plan there

...Vincent Kompany on City’s future

“It’s just a matter of time, because if people stick to what they want to do and don’t give up, they get there. What is happening at City is much more than flash and cash.

“For me it’s nothing to do with that, it’s somebody coming in with a vision and wanting to realise that vision through any means necessary.

“That’s the difference between a dream and a vision. City are prepared to do what it takes to succeed, and the Sheikh doesn’t see a problem as something that will stop him.

“The people in charge of City are the right people because they have the passion and motivation. If someone doesn’t have that, they don’t bother looking for ways to solve the problem.

“But what’s happening here is one problem being solved, and then another, and then one day you get where you need to get. It’s just a matter of time.”
