The Blues boss has not ruled out the pursuit of big name, marquee signings but he is intent on beefing up his squad with players who can blossom and grow under his tutelage.
He will scour the globe for potential recruits as he bids to improve on the fifth spot the Blues clinched this term with a draw at West Ham United on Sunday.
Speaking after the 1-1 stalemate Mancini confirmed he was looking forward to a hard working summer which would include activity in the transfer market.
“Now the planning the starts because next year we want to improve and if we work well we can do that,” he said.

“I am looking forward to building my own team; that is important for a manager.”
He will also be seeking out versatile players.
“Next season we will be playing four competitions and there will be games every three or four days so it is important that there is flexibility in the squad and important that players can perform in one or two positions,” he continued.
The manager confirmed, too, that he would not be attending the World Cup in person but instead would watch its progress on the television.
“There may be a player who emerges from the tournament that catches everyone’s eye but I have to say that we know about all the players who are at the World Cup this summer already,” he said.
One of the manager’s tasks in the coming weeks will be to sort out the futures of a plethora of loan signings scattered over the globe.
Big money buys Jo (Galatasaray), Valerie Bojinov (Parma), Felipe Caicedo (Malaga), and youngsters Ryan McGivern (Leicester), Shaleum Logan (Tranmere) and Kelvin Etuhu (Cardiff) all due back into the fold along with keeper Joe Hart (Birmingham) and Vladimir Weiss (Bolton) whilst British record signing Robinho remains at Santos in Brazil until the first week in August.
