It was a good weekend for the Blues, with Sunday afternoon’s win and a combination of results seeing City just three points behind leaders Chelsea, still top thanks to a superior goal difference but wobbling after another defeat.
Two more goals from Carlos Tevez, one from Yaya Toure and a screamer from Pablo Zabaleta ensured a win on the banks of the Thames, with Zoltan Gera’s deflected strike only taking a touch of gloss off proceedings, with Mancini saying afterwards:
“I am delighted with the performance and the result. The guys played some great football, but I don’t think there was a lot of difference to last week. We created a lot of chances in the second half against Birmingham, and building on that today we showed that one goal can change a game quickly.
“Then you can go on to score two or three more. There is more space when you play away, the home team played to win and that made a big difference for us today.
It’s a difficult place to win, Fulham have played well at home, but if we play like we did today we can win anywhere.
“It was a good weekend for us, but we must continue to keep working well whether we win, lose or draw. It’s a long season and anything can happen.
City’s travelling contingent of fans sang the manager’s name throughout the afternoon, but he modestly insisted that it was the team who deserved all the plaudits, adding:
“It was nice to hear and I’m happy, but I want to pass everything on to the players because they did so well today.
“I am delighted, but I am more happy for the players because they deserved this win. We played some fantastic football today.”
